The ‘magredo’ landscape between Meduna and Cellina provides a rugged background for the town of Vivaro, as rugged as the Pietà between SS. Antonio Abate and Girolamo (1482), by Gianfrancesco da Tolmezzo, visible in the parish church of Santa Maria: in this fragmentary fresco, ranking among the artist’s earliest production, the lifeless body of Christ in his mother’s arms follows the iconographic pattern of a Vesperbild. In the church of SS. Fosca and Maura at Basaldella, the altars on the right show two noteworthy altarpieces by G. Narvesa, one showing a Pietà with SS. Urbano, Agostino, Girolamo and Silvestro (1616) and the other portraying SS. Antonio Abate, Pietro and Agata (1601). Moreover, the church of San Paolo at Tesis is embellished with a holy water spout and baptismal font dating to the year 1529. The same neighbourhood also hosts an Antiquarium exhibiting the Roman and early Medieval finds brought to light in the archaeological excavations in the area.
