Rich in woods and karst vegetation, the area still retains examples of traditional architecture and agricultural and craft activities: terrano wine, tabor cheese, and marble quarries. The village of Zolla-Col is dominated by the fortress of Monrupino (a former protohistoric castelliere) still surrounding the houses with their traditional roofs of limestone slabs, and by the 16th-century Church of Beata Vergine Assunta, a Marian Sanctuary.
Here, every second year, in August, the traditional karst nuptials in costume, following last century’s ceremony, takes place. The scarcity of superficial water forced the people who lived here to create ponds and reservoirs that have become natural oases, as the Dolina of Percedol, one of the largest, which is a protected wildlife reserve.
