Afavourite location for mountain climbers (since they can challenge here the famous Campanile of Val Montanaia or the Cima dei Preti, whose top is more than 2700 metres high) and nature enthusiasts in general (for whom the climb up to Rifugio Pordenone is challenge enough), Cimolais is interesting also for art enthusiasts: apart from a stone font with wooden covering (17th century) and mid-1900s frescoes by G. Modolo, the parish church of Santa Maria also preserves one of the most expressive examples of baroque wooden altars in the province, namely the sumptuous 17thcentury high altar (including a Virgin with Child between SS. John the Baptist and John the Evangelist) carved by G. Auregne from Cadore. The same artist is also attributed the two -macchine lignee- (wooden machines) to the sides dedicated respectively to the Rosary and Crucifx. Plainer 17th- and 18th-century altars ornate the church of San Floriano.
